Je suis passionné d'escalade et jusqu'en février 2020 j'allais toutes les semaines dans une salle d'escalade pour m'y entrainer pendant 3 ans. Pendant le premier confinement je n'ai pas pu m'entrainer malheureusement car je n'avais aucun équipement chez moi . J'ai commencé à regarder sur internet et j'ai vu ces objets d'entrainement et renforcement musculaire appelés hangboard ou fingerboard (planche à doigts ou à suspendre littéralement), ces planches sont soit faits de bois soit de polyester (PE) soit de Polyuréthane (PU) (NB: les 2 derniers sont les matériaux utilisés pour les prises d'escalade).
Il existe plein de modèles en vente sur internet (amazon, etsy, ebay, ...) mais peu me conviennent car ils sont soit trop grands soit trop chers soit pas en stock ou pas livrés en France. J'ai donc commencé à faire des recherches sur reddit, des blogs et des groupes facebook et je me suis rendu compte que cet objet pouvait être réalisé soi même avec l'utilisation d'une CNC pour transformer une planche de bois en hangboard ou d'une imprimante 3D en collant des prises de main avec de l'epoxy à une planche en bois. De plus avec cette solution "fait maison" je pourrai choisir:
- la forme/ profondeur des prises pour que ce hangboard réponde parfaitement à mes besoins et si ce n'est pas le cas je ne pourrai m'en prendre qu'à moi même

Update 2: choix d'un design et début de la modélisation

Je me suis finalement décidé, mon premier prototype sera inspiré par le design des maxgrip et sera imprimé en 3D, en fonction des résultats, je continuerai pour trouver une meilleure solution mais si ce dernier répond à mon CDC (cahier des charges) le projet s'arrêtera là.
Pour rappel le constructeur nous donne les dimensions suivantes:

Update 3: nouvelle technique

J’ai suivi l’initiation à la découpeuse laser proposée par PING (super intéressant, je vous conseille si vous n’avez jamais approché cette technologie). Au cours d’une discussion sur les applications de cette technologie à mon projet avec Adrien (merci pour l’initiation et le conseil d’ailleurs), ce dernier m’a donné une piste super intéressante, il n’est pas possible de graver ou de découpe une pièce de plus de 8mm de haut avec les machines du fablab (atelier du breil ou plateforme C), donc exit la gravure de la profondeur des prises sur une bloc de bois sorti de la fraiseuse comme évoqué avant, mais il est possible de coller des pièces de bois entre elles grâce à de la colle à bois ou de l’epoxy, avec cette technique la pièce n’est plus limitée en hauteur ou presque. Une solution pour réaliser un hangboard fait d’une pièce (différent de celui dont je parle dans l’update 2) serait de diviser un design de hangboard en feuilles de 5 à 8 mm et de les coller entre elles après. Cette solution apporte de nouvelles possibilités mais aussi de nouvelles contraintes de formes donc il faut que je l’étudie plus avant de l’essayer, à suivre.

J’ai aussi commencé à me renseigner sur l’epoxy :
Les polyépoxydes (epoxy) agissent comme une barrière étanche. Une fois « sec », il devient rigide et conserve sa forme, ce qui permet de l'utiliser pour renforcer les contenants qui en sont enduits. De plus, lorsque le mélange réactionnel polymérise, il réagit chimiquement avec de nombreux matériaux organiques ou minéraux. Cette réaction en fait une colle ayant un bon facteur de traction en présence de maints matériaux (bois, verre, porcelaine, métal, etc.).
La colle époxyde est composée de deux éléments toxiques : la résine et le durcisseur. Quand le mélange est parfaitement dosé, la polymérisation rend le matériau durci relativement stable et neutre.

• Irritation cutanée, causée par les résines, mais plus encore par les durcisseurs.
• Eczéma de contact, par les résines les plus sensibilisantes (plutôt que les durcisseurs), avec éventuelles atteintes du visage (dont paupières…). On observe des dermatoses professionnelles chez les travailleurs exposés.
• Des réactions allergiques
• Ces résines ne semblent pas induire d'asthme ou de cancers. Toutefois un cas unique d'eczéma de contact évoluant en lésion cancéreuse est observé.
Il faut donc porter des protections adéquates lors de la manipulation d’époxy (gants, masque anti-poussière bien hermétique et lunettes de sécurité) et travailler dans un environnement aéré.

Update 5: un pas en avant, deux pas en arrière

Avec les infos et photos du constructeur j’ai commencé la modélisation 3D sur Fusion 360 (beurk, je sais, mais je suis familiarisé avec car mon école m’a formé dessus, mais à therme il faudra que je m’en sépare pour blender mais je n’ai pas le courage de le faire pour le moment). J’ai obtenu un résultat plus que moyen, disons-le un raté (aucune photo ne sera publiée, j’en ai honte tellement c’est loin du résultat attendu), le problème était que je n’arrivais pas à reproduire précisément les courbes du modèle (si c’était un objet décoratif ou un objet que je ne devais pas prendre en main, aucun problème, mais tout l’intérêt d’un hangboard est basé sur les angles et la profondeur de ses courbes pour pouvoir y glisser une main. J’ai donc cherché à trouver un design tout fait. Et là miracle, j’en ai trouvé deux avec un qui avait même de succinctes instructions d’impression sur le site suivant :

En dessous du premier fichier il y avait les instructions suivantes : « Use at least 60% infill for strong part and FuzzySkin in Cura for better grip. », traduction, remplissage minimum 60% pour avoir une pièce assez solide et utiliser le réglage FuzzySkin dans le slicer cura pour avoir un meilleur grip/ prise en main.
Bon bah maintenant il reste « plus qu’à » imprimer et le tester en vrai.

I enjoy indoor climbing and I did it every week in a climb gym for 3 years until february 2020. During the first lockdown, I realised that I wasn't able to train as in the past because i hadn't any training tool do do it, so i searched on the web and i found something that would fit my need. It is called a hangboard or afingerboard and it's made out of wood or polyester (PE) ou de Polyuréthane (PU) (climbing holds are made out of this last 2 materials).
A lot of them are on sale on the internet (amazon, etsy, ebay, ...), the one found were very good, but weren't perfect for me, it was either to expensive or to big, or out of stock or not delivered to France. That's why i started watchinng on facebook groups, reddit and other blog if someone has already tried, and the answear is yes. Some people used a 3d rointer and glued the part on a wood plate and some people used a bigger wood plate and used a CNC. The advantages of a homemade hangboard are:
- I will learn how to use all the tools
- I will be able to design it to fit perfectly my needs (and if it's not perfect it will be my fault)

Update 2: choice of design and start of 3D modeling

I finally decided, my first prototype will be inspired by maxgrip's design and will be 3D printed, depending on the results, I will continue my research to find a new solutions but if the prototype meets my specifications, the project will stop there.

Update 3: new technique

I took part in the initiation to the laser cutter offered by PING (super interesting, I recommend you if you have never approached this technology). During a discussion on the applications of this technology to my project with Adrien (thank you for the initiation and the advice by the way), he gave me a super interesting advice, it'snt possible to burn or to cut a part more which height is more than 8mm with the machines of the fablab (breil's workshop or platform C), so there wouldn't be engraving of the depth of the hangboard's grips on a block of wood taken out of the milling machine as mentioned before, but it is possible to glue pieces of wood together with wood glue or epoxy, with this technique the piece is no longer limited in height or almost. One solution to making a one-piece hangboard (different from the one I talked about in Update 2) would be to divide a hangboard design into 5 to 8mm sheets and glue them together afterwards. This solution brings new possibilities and freedom but also new constraints of shapes so I have to study it more before trying it, to be continued.

Polyepoxides (epoxy) act as a tight barrier. Once dry, it becomes rigid and retains its shape, which makes it possible to use it to reinforce the containers which are coated with it. • These resins do not seem to induce asthma or cancer. However, a single case of contact eczema evolving into a cancerous lesion is observed.
You must therefore wear adequate protection when handling epoxy (gloves, well-sealed dust mask and safety glasses) and work in a ventilated environment.

Update 5: one step forward and two steps back

With the manufacturer's info and photos I started 3D modeling on Fusion 360 (eurk, I know, but I'm familiar with it because my school trained me on it, but then I'll have to change my habits to blender but I don't have the courage to do it at the moment). I got a pretty bad result, let's say it's a failure (no photo will be published, I'm ashamed of it so much it is far from the expected result), the problem was that I could not reproduce precisely the curves of the model (if it was a decorative object or an object that I should not take in hand, no problem, but the whole point of a hangboard is based on the angles and the depth of its curves to be able to slide there one hand. So I looked to find a ready-made design. And there miraculously, I found two with one that even had brief printing instructions on the following website:
